Nursing is consistently named one of the most trusted professions in the annual Gallup Poll of 22 professions, and it's of little wonder. Nurses have long been on the frontline of healthcare who coordinate care plans between physicians and patients. As medical research, technology, and treatment options become more enhanced, nurses are expected to keep step, and advancing their training becomes key.
Nurses with two year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or nursing diploma (RN) are finding more career opportunities available for those nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. To meet the increasing demand for online BSN degrees, colleges and universities have developed accelerated RN-BSN undergraduate nursing programs for currently working nurses. These programs may range from 1-1/2 years for completion or longer, dependent on the number of credit hours eligible for transfer from previous institutions. Many of these RN-BSN programs provide financial assistance for qualified students. (Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA ®) is recommended).
25 Best Value Online RN-BSN Programs
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates the field of nursing will grow at a rapid 15% rate between 2016-2026 and suggests a minimum of a BSN will be required. Employment for BSN prepared nurses may be in hospitals, healthcare systems, physician offices, long-term care facilities, and outpatient clinics. Annual salary expectations for BSN nurses, according to the BLS, range from $61,850-$78,390. PayScale cites BSN nurses earning a median salary of $81,000 compared to $63,649 for nurses without a BSN.
